Zammo.ai for Accessibility
4 Min Read
John Robinson of Our Ability is actually building a new company—with Zammo.ai at the core and CEO Alex Farr as an advisor—to help people with disabilities find jobs.
Microsoft AI for Accessibility grant winner Our Ability is leveraging the Zammo.ai platform at the core of its new product: Jobs Ability to allow people with disabilities speak to Alexa, Google or a ChatBot about their experience and desired job, which then provides AI-based job matches and automates applying for that job. This not only helps the applicant but also solves the pain of the hiring manager who is inundated with requests from organizations trying to help by manually nominating applicants with disabilities. This business venture is starting to get some exciting attention.
1. Here is a leading disability blog’s coverage of Zammo.ai customer Our Ability:
Zammo.ai’s work with Our Ability has been covered by a leading disability blog ,The Blind Guide, an incredible resource for people who are blind or visually-impaired.
Blind Guide editor, Ed Henkler, talked with Our Ability CEO, John Robinson about the difficult time people with disabilities have faced while trying to access coronavirus-related information during the COVID crisis.
“Our Ability is using artificial intelligence (AI), through Zammo technology, to help people with disabilities get valuable information through the voice platforms like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.”
The US Department of Labor was quoted in the blog as well explaining their role in ensuring that the nation’s workforce system can effectively serve people with disabilities.
2. OurAbility and Zammo.ai are recognized and featured by the US Department of Labor.
Zammo.ai has also been recognized and featured by the US Department of Labor (US DOL) for providing AI that helps people with disabilities find employment. In October of 2020, the US DOL's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) hosted their annual event for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event explored the crucial role of accessible technology in relation to their 2020 theme, “Increasing Access and Opportunity” for people with disabilities. At the event, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Disability Employment Policy, Jennifer Sheehy, mentioned Zammo.ai while introducing the two-minute Zammo.ai video that demonstrates how even a smaller organization like Our Ability can engage their users via voice and chatbot in their job search.
In the video presented, Our Ability CEO, John Robinson and Zammo.ai Chief Engineer, Guy Tonye, demonstrate how Zammo.ai makes it easy for disabled people to create their job profile through Our Ability using just their voice. The two discuss how Zammo.ai has extended the accessibility of disabled people and how this is only the beginning for what voice assistants can do for their organization and accessibility at large.
“Getting Our Ability on voice assistants was easier than I thought possible, and a dream come true,” said Robinson in the video. “Disabilities that limit vision, mobility, and dexterity may make it difficult to login and access our web portal. So, we wanted to get voice assistance, but we couldn’t justify the investment to go out with an RFP to a digital agency, that’s when we met Zammo.”
3. Zammo.ai was selected to be a part of an interview panel by DXDaily.
The CDX digital transformation community is focused on the enterprise digital transformation angle of using AI to accelerate core HR functions like sourcing, recruiting and hiring. CDX announced their spotlight, “How Voice & Conversational A.I. are Helping Workers With Disabilities”, bringing together disability empowerment leaders John Robinson, Our Ability CEO, Guy Tonye, chief engineer at Zammo.ai, and Bill Curtis-Davidson, AI Lead for the P.E.A.T. initiative in the U.S. Department of Labor. This panel highlighted what voice technology is doing for people with disabilities and shared how a non-profit, an AI voice engineer, and a government representative are all working towards the same cause.
4. Here is the follow-up coverage including a detailed article with embedded video of panel including US Dept of Labor, Our Ability, Zammo.ai:
In a Techonomy Exclusive, the CDX panel interview was shared and highlighted including mention of what specifically Zammo.ai is doing for accessibility: “Zammo’s chatbots use both voice and text technology, specifically to enable accessibility. It has a variety of application development tools meant for designing apps for disabled users.”
In the panel video, Robinson, CEO of Our Ability, and member of the disabled community himself, recognized how his business could flourish through the use of voice technology. “We knew that technology is a great equalizer for people with disabilities and we knew with voice and conversational AI we could do a better job in grabbing people’s abilities, skills, interests and do a better job in harnessing them early and faster,” Robinson said.
“The opportunities are endless. What we want to do is create a common language, a level playing field for businesses to speak disability, for disability to speak business and voice and AI technology are allowing us to do that. We could not do it without our great partnership, especially with Zammo,” Robinson explains regarding his company’s partnership with Zammo.ai.
5. Our Ability reaches an exclusive licensing agreement for Jobs Ability giving the organization a presence in Canada for the first time.
John Robinson, CEO of Our Ability recently launched Jobs Ability, a technology-based platform for job seekers with disabilities. The Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN), based in the Toronto area, will now run the job portal exclusively in Canada, with the cooperative title, Jobs Ability Canada.
“I’m very excited that we’re able to bring our new AI technology to Canada through this newly forged partnership,” said Robinson. “This is an opportunity to engage the business community in a new way, with cutting-edge technology, as well as highlight the skills of individuals with disabilities across the country to ensure their pathway to employment.”
